The On-line Archives of Rheumatology is a collection of scientific and educational
material dealing with the clinical manifestations, laboratory investigations and
the treatment of rheumatic diseases.
It was founded in 1996 at the beginning of the World Wide Web era by the staff
of the Department of Rheumatology of the University of Padova.
At that time the usual modem connection was at the speed of 24Kb and the downloading
of images very slow. The best SVGA monitor displayed only 800x600 pixels and
therefore the images included in our site had to be rather small compared to the
actual standards.
Moreover, all our images were obtained by scanning colour slides, and for this
reason the overall quality was lower than the one obtained with modern digital cameras.
For these reasons we decided not to update our old site but leave it as it was
at the time of its creation, as a sort of historical memory of the World Wide Web
and to create a new site according to the actual standards.
The original project contained the "On-line Atlas of Rheumatology"
and later on the "On-line Atlas of Synovial Fluid". It also contained
an area for peer reviewed publications
which was later on discontinued, in which the papers were published as
clinical observations, case reports, photo-essays
(which included one or more images), reviews
or simply as rheumatologic images.
This site is reserved to medical practitioners as well as students:
patients and other non-medical staff should not enter this site.
