Violaceous (heliotrope) erythema of the upper eyelids.



The cutaneous manifestations of DM are often resistant to therapy and do not parallel the response of the muscle disease.  In this case high doses of systemic steroids adequately controlled muscle involvement and induced the development of a typical "moon" facies but not the resolution of the eyelid dermatitis.
